If you have a Roku remote, connecting the Onn Roku TV to the internet is simple. But what if your Roku remote tends to be unresponsive? You don’t need to worry anymore. In this article, we have shared some techniques to connect the Onn TV to WiFi without a remote.

Use Keyboard or Mouse to Connect Onn TV to WiFi

Onn TV has dedicated USB ports to connect a wired/wireless keyboard or mouse. Therefore, you can plug in a wireless keyboard or mouse to control your Onn TV and connect it to any WIFI network. As some of the latest keyboards come with built-in touchpads, you can also use them as an air mouse. To purchase such keyboards, we have some recommendations.

Connect Onn TV to WIFI without remote using Keyboard or Mouse

Once you set up a keyboard on your Onn Roku TV, go to Settings → Network → Set up connection → Wireless → Click WiFi → Type Password → Connect to WiFi.

Rename WiFi to Connect Onn Roku TV to WiFi

If your Onn TV is previously connected to WiFi and you have a secondary router, try this method. Otherwise, skip this and move on to the next.

Rename your secondary router’s SSID and password exactly as the one to which the Onn Roku TV is connected earlier. Now, if you turn on the Onn TV, your secondary router’s WiFi name will be recognized as the previously connected network and automatically connected.

Note: If your Onn TV doesn’t connect automatically, you can use the IR blaster remote app as a virtual remote.

Use the Remote App to Connect Onn TV to WiFi

If you haven’t connected the TV to WiFi, you can use the Onn TV remote app. You can use the below-mentioned remote apps on your phone to operate the Onn TV. Ensure your smartphone has an IR blaster to use the remote apps.

After installing the app, go to Network settings and connect Onn TV to a wireless network.

Use a Mobile Hotspot to Connect Onn TV to WiFi

You can try this method only if the TV has been connected to WiFi once. In this method, you have to use two smartphones. One phone is for enabling a WiFi hotspot, and the other phone is for using The Roku App. You have to rename the WiFi hotspot name and password as your old WiFi network. As a result, the Onn TV will connect to this WiFi hotspot, recognizing it as a previously connected WiFi network.

    1. Install the Roku remote app on an Android or iPhone.

    2. Enable the WiFi hotspot on your smartphone based on its OS.

    • Android: Visit Settings → Network and Internet → Hotspot and tethering → Wi-Fi hotspot.
    • iPhone: Go to Settings → Mobile Data → Personal Hotspot.

    3. Rename the WiFi hotspot name and password as told earlier.

    4. Turn on the Onn TV and wait for it to connect to a mobile hotspot.

    5. From another phone, Open The Roku App, click Devices, and select your Onn TV.

Note: If you can’t find Onn Roku TV in The Roku App, check whether your phone and Onn TV are connected to the WiFi hotspot.

    6. Use the app interface to go to Network settings and connect the Onn Roku TV to WiFi without a remote.

Using Browser Extension to Connect Onn TV to WiFi

If you use Chrome or Edge on your desktop/laptop, install a browser extension to access a virtual remote. Remoku is a brilliant tool that connects Onn Roku TV to WiFi. But remember, your Onn TV must be already connected to an internet connection to do so.

    1. Open Google Chrome on your PC and get Remoku from the Chrome web store.

    2. Ensure that Onn TV and PC are connected to the same WiFi network.

    3. Click the Remoku icon on the extension menu bar.

    4. You will see the virtual remote on the screen. Go to Settings and select Network.

    5. Then, click on Set Up Connection and choose Wireless.

    6. Now, choose the desired network and enter the password to connect.

Use an Ethernet Cable to Connect Onn TV to the Internet

For convenience, use an ethernet cable to establish a wired internet connection on Onn TV. It is better regarding network stability, lower latency, and internet speed. It is recommended to use the DbillionDa Cat 8 Ethernet cable, which delivers high-speed bandwidth and is suitable for all Onn TV models. To set up a wired internet, connect one end of the ethernet cable to the Onn TV and the other to the router.

    Use a Universal Remote

If the original remote is not working or is lost, you can buy a universal remote like Logitech Harmony 650. Compared to the original remote, a universal remote is cheaper and available on Amazon. Some replacement remotes can work right out of the box since they work with infrared technology. But for a universal remote, you need to use Onn TV remote codes to program it to your TV.
