How to Program a GE Universal Remote
How to Program a GE Universal Remote

Are you looking for instructions to program a GE universal Remote? This guide is for you. I would recommend you program a GE universal remote to any device using the codes. If you don’t have remote codes, don’t panic. In such cases, you can program a GE universal remote to a cable/set-top box, TV, or DVD/Blu-ray player by running a code search.

In this article, I will explain the possible techniques to program a GE universal remote to the TV.

How to Program GE Universal Remote to the TV With Codes

Remove the back cover of your remote and remove the batteries. Find your remote’s Code List and Version number stamped on the white sticker inside the battery compartment. See whether the number has V1-V5 mentioned. These are older models. If you find CL3, CL4, or CL5, they are newer models. Close the battery compartment after reinserting the batteries.

    1. Find the programming codes for your GE Universal Remote by visiting (byjasco.com/universal-remote-codes).

    Check the remote model number

    2. On the webpage, click the Lookup CL Codes button based on the remote model number.

    3. Select TV or any device you have in the Device Category drop-down box.

    4. Choose the Brand Name in the next drop-down box. It will display remote codes for your device.

    5. Switch on the device you want to program a GE universal remote.

    6. Keep pressing the Setup button and release it once you see the red light.

    7. Press the TV button on the remote once.

    8. Enter the device code using the remote. If you find several codes enlisted for your device, prefer the first one. After entering, the red light will turn off.

    9. Aim the remote towards the TV and press the Power button. Your device will turn off if the code is valid. Otherwise, try the next code from the list.

    Functions of GE universal remote

If none of the code works, try the second method. It is applicable for both the older and newer remote models.

Note: If you have an Insignia TV, you can program a GE universal remote to it using Insignia TV universal remote codes.

How to Program GE Universal Remote Without Codes

Here’s how to program a GE universal remote to LG, Samsung, Vizio, Insignia, or any TV without codes.

    1. Turn on the device you want to program the remote with.

    2. Pressing and holding down the Setup/Code Search button will turn on the red light. Once it does, release the button.

    3. Press the Device button (TV/CBL/DVD/AUX) on the GE universal remote.

Press the Device button on the GE universal remote

    4. Place your remote in contact with the device and press the Power button. In the case of a DVD Player, you should press the Play button (also for V1, V2, V3, V4, and V5 remotes). Once the search begins, the red light will blink for two seconds, indicating the scanning through codes. If you do not see the light flash, press the Power/Play button to scan for the code manually.

    5. To lock in the code, press the numeral 1 key right when your device turns off or starts to play. In case of manually scanning, you should press Enter, Mute, or Save button.

    6. Finally, check the controls on your remote on the device.

How to Fix GE Universal Remote Not Programming

If the GE universal remote is not pairing with the device, follow these troubleshooting methods to fix the issue.

    • Pop out the old batteries from the remote and replace them with newer batteries.
    • Clear the obstructions if any showpieces or speakers are placed in front of the receiver.
    • Use the appropriate remote codes for programming. Otherwise, the remote setup will be unsuccessful.

GE Universal Remote Codes for Popular Brands

As we know, the Universal remote can be paired to any device of different brands. All we need to do is to program the remote to the device using the preset remote codes. Of course, every device has multiple codes, so make sure to try out the available code to get the one that works for your device.
